Welcome to the live chat. We'll take questions from all local sports. Vikings, Gophers, Wolves, Wild, Twins hot stove.... What've you got?
Yes. They'll be involved in the posting fee conversation. It's fair to wonder though if they won't bring the same financial clout as the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, Rangers, or other teams rumored to be in on the Japanese pitcher
Also, for the record, I think comparisons to Yu Darvish are overblown. So you'd probably be overpaying for Tanaka, in my opinion. But the Twins are in a spot where they will likely have to overpay for pitchers this offseason anyway.
A report surfaced this morning that they're shopping D. Williams and A. Shved, who have both been pretty bad this year (Shved especially). No free agent really interests me right now, but a trade could make sense.
Need to address depth. It's a concern going forward.
Here's what I think is interesting. What type of value does Williams have or Shved for that matter? I just don't see how they are great chips right now. Maybe later in the season but not now.
will be a good rim protector sometime, but not just yet.
I don't see it happening. Doogie said today he still thinks it's Duke but that someone from the inner circle told him that Kansas could be in the mix as well. Don't think the Gophers were mentioned.
Thanks for paying attention. Haven't yet predicted how bad it's going to be for the Vikings. Right now, I'm trying to get my mind around why Ponder is still playing. Also hoping they bench Jerome Simpson and give all those snaps to Patterson. I don't care if he runs the wrong route once in a while either. He's on a 2-7 team and needs to play as much as possible.
No, I think Rubio gets the max. Keeping Love is going to be tough. I won't blame him for exploring his options. The Wolves had their chance to keep him happy and David Khan goofed it up beyond belief.
Here are the names we've heard steam on (mostly pitchers): Tanaka, Jason Vargas, Scott Kazmir, Bronson Arroyo, they'll likely check the price on Matt Garza. Catchers: AJ Pierzynski and Saltalamacchia
Also Johan Santana. And by 'steam' I mean that they've reached out. Haven't heard any solid offers yet.
I will work on it. As far as the coordinator, that was a Leslie Frazier pick. Frazier and Alan Williams worked together with the Indianapolis Colts. Williams understood Frazier's vision for the defense and a year ago it worked pretty well. This year? Not so much.
@DarrylSorensen: Could use an upgrade as long as it doesn't prevent Twins from signing pitching
To start the season I think the infield will be Mauer, Dozier, Florimon and potentially Plouffe and Bartlett, if he can do anything in spring training. My guess is Bartlett is being eyed as a potential short-term third baseman until the Twins consider Sano to be ready to play. Now if Sano knocks the cover off the ball in spring training that will change things.
I'm not sure he has one. I don't think the Twins were impressed at all by what they saw last season and now that Mauer is a first baseman, Parmelee is either going to be an outfielder, DH or out of the mix. He's going to have to have a really good spring training to remain in the mix.
Because we're not myopic. We see the big picture and rip/praise accordingly.
End of the season. Probably most of the coaches, too.
I'd agree with Derek. There will be no need to fire him in season. Things aren't going to change and players like him. NFL teams don't operate like baseball.
Because that's not the Twins way! You know that.
No, if I had to guess, he'd be up in mid-June
