I've kicked around the idea of writing this. It's clear that Ponder is not the answer, but it's not clear that Freeman is an upgrade on the field. It is, however, worth an extended shot to find out. If he's not, draft a QB, or sign a free agent. But a worthy gamble. Expectations for his performance should be tempered, though. He's not great and there's not a lot of historical evidence that shows QBs switching teams midseason can jump in and be successful.
The thing that concerned me Sunday was the team quit and that's bad for a head coach. The sky isn't always falling but the glass is always half empty. Look at it as being half full means you aren't getting enough water. This glass is definitely half empty and there's a big leak in it.
I agree with your premise, but I don't think you could get enough value in return to make it worth moving Peterson. Move Allen, Williams, or any other player approaching free agency. Build around guys like Harrison Smith and Xavier Rhodes.
There's no way I can pick the Vikings. I agree with how you see it. The Giants are terrible but they will have a ton of time to prepare for this game and I think they'll win it.
I'd add a double shot for "Mall of America Field," but I don't think my liver could handle it.
I have it DVR'd but I haven't gotten to it yet. I've heard great things and, in short, no I don't think football be the same at all in 15 years.
Jay Cutler a free agent? I'd welcome him.
We discuss this today on Judd & Dubay. I looked up the available salary cap space and it would be tough because Allen would be about a $10 million hit on a team's cap. But it's not a bad conversation and if I could get a third-rounder I'd take it. You aren't going to get a first- or second-round pick for a rental player.
That's what is funny about this. They went 3-13 in 2011 and 10-6 last year in a rebuild. In some ways, this team is very much rebuilding. I just don't like some of the parts. At all.
I have my doubts. Doesn't mean the kid isn't a winner but I don't know where I'd draft him. The "experts" have him all over the board. Also, is he a cocky leader or a guy who teammates will hate? This will be very interesting to find out when he does enter the NFL draft process.
I'd give you pretty long odds because they shouldn't have to play in the second half. 500 Yards in one half is tough, even against this crummy defense.
Don't worry, guys. Better days ahead. Until next time, thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation. Tons of great questions today, we couldn't get to all of them.
